100 Days

11 Jan

January 1, 2009 I started this thing where I decided to work out (in some form or another) for 100 days straight.  Actually, the idea came from a friend who has done this before and somehow convinced me to try it.  The idea is to keep the body moving every single solitary day for 100 days with “no excuses,” as my friend says.  This is good for me.  For so long I’ve taken care of other people and other things better than I’ve taken care of myself.  I know it’s time for some change – and I know my dad would be happy for me.

I’ll be honest though, I’ve missed a couple of days but other than that I think I’m doing good.

Day One – Manhattan Beach, California

I started Day 1 by going to the “Dunes” at Manhattan Beach.  If there are any So-Cal folks out there, then you already know about the Sand Dunes.  The only word I can use to describe the Sand Dunes at MB is KILLER.  Basically, it’s this jinormous mountain of sand that folks literally climb for a great cardio workout.  I climbed the Dunes once over the summer and again several days ago.  The first time was cool because back in the summer I was in better shape, but this last time was absolutely horrible.  I thought I was going to pass out the second time up the hill.

The Sand Dunes (Manhattan Beach, California)

January 1st workout:

  • 2x up the Dunes
  • 1x up the steps (next to the Dunes)
  • 100 sit ups on the beach
  • brisk quarter-mile jog on the beach

Today, Day 10, I decided to visit Drake Stadium at UCLA for a nice bleacher workout.  Much better.  I always enjoy the track – probably because that’s my safe place.  I feel waaay more calm looking at an eight lane track than a mountain heap of sand.

Today’s workout (Jan 10, 2008):

  • 15 stadium bleachers (up and down)
  • 1.25 miles
  • 300 sit-ups

All in a day’s work.  Well, actually it’s not that easy.  I mean, once I start working out it’s gravy, but it’s just the getting up and getting out that’s hard.  I’m not one to complain, but for this post, I will: LA SUCKS WHEN IT COMES TO MOVING AROUND!  I takes me 30 minutes just to get to the Dunes and the track – and that’s without traffic.  I really despise sitting in traffic just so I can go work out.  I’m thinking about purchasing a treadmill.  It’s much easier to roll out of bed and jump on the treadmill, than to roll out of bed, get in my car, sit in traffic for 30 minutes, THEN start working out.  I don’t think I could do that everyday.

If anyone has any great workout suggestions, please let me know – I’m all ears.  Also, if you’re starting a personal regime, please share.  Let us know what you’re doing so we can all be envious enough to get off our butts and get moving!
